Learning stages

Every stage opens a world.

Our school welcomes students from Early Childhood to Middle School (Year 7), aged 2 to 12. Our Middle Years (Middle School) is already under way and, year by year, we will add one more year group as we move towards High School.

See below how we organise our classes, and understand our approach to building development.

Early Childhood

Campus Esfera — Kindergarten

Toddlers — K3 — K4 — K5 | Ages 2–5

The security to discover: the first step towards learning.

Our Early Childhood stage is the gateway to Sphere. This path will be marked by a very warm welcome, both for our young students and for their families.

For this age group, our bilingual approach is one of immersion. Activities, projects, units of inquiry and our whole relationship with the students will be experienced in English.

Routines, exchanges, gestures, symbols and meanings are gradually absorbed and assimilated by the students. In this way, without sitting in rows, without limiting factors and with communication and different forms of expression encouraged, our little ones make the additional language their own, naturally.

All Early Childhood learning spaces are exclusive, intentionally designed and prepared for experiences and discoveries. That is why we have an area dedicated to Early Childhood on our campus, with bathrooms, furniture, playgrounds and environments adapted to stimulate the senses, both in play and in the experiences of the units of inquiry.

With an experienced teaching team and a high ratio of educators to children, we offer all the support these little ones need to feel safe and so be able to develop.

Following the best educational benchmarks, both national and international, we develop forms of expression, psychomotor skills, awareness of self and others, play and mathematical principles, while also encouraging the exploration of nature and supporting the little ones in the continuous, everyday development of their autonomy.

Elementary School — Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 (Y5 at Campus 14 BIS) | Ages 6–10

Inquiry, exploration and immersion that show results.

In Elementary School, knowledge becomes meaningful when students take an active part in every discovery. Interdisciplinary projects bring together different fields and forms of expression, encouraging autonomy, critical thinking, curiosity and collaboration.

In a guided way, grounded in our methodology, in the purposeful design of the programme and in the intentional practice of the teacher, we develop students who question and research. Constant development prepares our students to communicate in English and Portuguese with different people all over the world.

Our robust timetable allows students in this age group to be stimulated in many different ways, always aiming to develop different forms of expression and prioritising the potential of multiple intelligences. We offer Arts, Music, Design Lab and Physical Education lessons, alongside the other fields of knowledge, and many multidisciplinary projects.

What sets us apart is the way we treat each child and, in this way, build learning pathways that reveal the development of potential and skills, and the ownership of knowledge.

At this age, fundamental steps will be taken, especially in the literacy process, which will be developed in Portuguese and English. We will ensure the development of the tools for reading and interpreting texts, without limiting ourselves to the technical process of literacy.

From Year 1, guided by the units of inquiry, we will lead our students through the process of acquiring language and writing, ensuring, from the very first steps, that a reading habit is established and a critical mindset is developed.

In accordance with Brazilian legislation, our school will cover all national content and requirements, including the Brazilian national curriculum (BNCC) and other frameworks, and will add the in-depth, everyday development of English.

Children will learn English and, beyond that, will learn in English, consistently developing cultural repertoire, language and vocabulary.

As we build our pathway of continuous development, in the final year of this stage, Y5 students move to our Campus 14 BIS, located opposite Campus Esfera. In a new environment, students in the final year of Elementary School will be challenged to make the transition to the Middle Years.

In this way, we build a smooth transition, while still encouraging our students to embrace new things, challenges, development and growth.

Middle School

Campus 14 BIS — Middle School

Deeper learning and care that reveal academic excellence.

In Middle School, complex challenges invite students to deepen their knowledge and take on a leading role. Interdisciplinary projects, units of inquiry and an educational approach that allows for continuous assessment encourage each student’s development, revealing autonomy and abilities that are so essential in today’s world, such as argumentation, collaboration and critical thinking.

Care and personalisation boost academic results and reveal the strength of our learning process.

At this stage, we will walk hand in hand with students and their families, ensuring all the care needed so that together we can navigate the challenges and complexities of adolescence.

This age group needs to build solid relationships of identity and security with their school community. In this way, students will broaden their network of respectful relationships, creating bonds that may last a lifetime.

With a robust timetable, we will introduce our students to specialists. Now, lessons will be taught by teachers who specialise in their own fields of training and expertise, such as Languages and Literature, Mathematics, Biology, History and Geography, among others.

Step by step, we will deepen our work with subject content, aiming to ensure the expected academic quality and deeper knowledge. At Sphere, we challenge students to develop both inside and outside school. Academic Olympiads naturally become part of our students’ journey.

Our whole educational project aims to develop language and technical skills so that our students are able to communicate around the world in different ways.

Our project-based educational approach does not take us away from the principles and standards of academic quality required by competitive university entrance exams in Brazil and around the world.

Students will be assessed continuously and in different ways, always with the assessment of individual development as the central reference point, making it possible to create new learning opportunities.

That is why our Y6 to Y9 students have a programme of weekly tests, which will help develop a student mindset and all the structures they need to continue their academic journey in High School.
